"Quilt Barn - Mendota, Va."

Ran across this quilt barn today on Swinging Bridge Rd. along the North Fork Holston River near Mendota, Va. There's a story behind this one but I'm keepin' it to myself!

"Moores Memorial Baptist Church"

Moores Memorial Baptist Church on Nickelsville Hwy. in Gate City, Va. It seems there has been an entrance way added on to the front of this church building but I'm guessing it is a fairly old church and is still in use. Note the carriage steps in the lower right corner under the tree. These were to aid folks on and off there carriages, wagons and what ever transportation they used in the day before the automobile. You don't see these just everyday!

All gave some, some gave all. Spent most of my day paying respect to some of our nation's heroes. First at the Andrew Johnson National Cemetery in Greeneville, Tn.

 And then at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, Tn.

View across the Great Smoky Mountains National Park from the parking area at Clingmans Dome. About as high as you can get in the park in a motor vehicle, without breaking the law!

An old log barn on Big Moccasin / Moccasin Valley Rd. in Scott County / Russell County, Va. The road changes names when it crosses the county line and I'm not sure which side of the line this barn is on.

Found this shot totally by accident. Passed by a rode that said "Swingle Cemetery". My wife says, lets check it out. We did. Found the cemetery on the right , this memorial was on the left. In Unicoi  County, Tn.

Caught this Blackbird playing around in the wetlands this afternoon at Sugar Hollow Park in Bristol, Va.

"Cedar - Apple Rust"

Cedar - Apple Rust fungus. Cedar-apple rust is a disease requiring both an apple and cedar or juniper tree to complete its life cycle. On the cedar, (shown here) the fungus grows up to golf-ball size on young twigs. During wet weather these growths swell and begin to push out bright orange gelatinous spikes. Wind carries fungal spores from these spikes to susceptible apple or crabapple trees to complete the cycle.

"Sunset For Shiny"

This evenings sunset as seen from the top of South Holston Dam in Sullivan County, Tn. This one's for "Shiny", our little black cat who we laid to rest today. Sure gonna miss you girl! See you on the other side of the 'bridge'.
